Rockaway Township Board approves routine agenda items and agrees to form ad hoc safety committee

At its Sept. 2 meeting the Rockaway Township Board of Education approved a slate of routine agenda items, including minutes and multiple committee recommendations, and agreed to develop an ad hoc safety and security committee.

The board carried a motion to approve minutes (roll call recorded; Doctor Thomasini registered an abstention during that vote). Subsequent motions to approve personnel, education, special education recommendations, administration recommendations, finance recommendations and policy recommendations each passed by roll call with the members listed in the record voting in the affirmative.

Board President read the Open Public Meetings Act notice and the board entered a closed session at 6:01 p.m. and reconvened at 7:32 p.m.

Later in the meeting a board member proposed creating an ad hoc safety and security committee. The board responded in the affirmative: “we will go ahead and develop, and implement a safety and security ad hoc committee,” the board president said, indicating a direction for follow-up rather than a separately recorded roll-call motion.

All formal approvals were announced as carried on the record by roll call; the transcript records individual yes votes for board members and a single abstention on the minutes approval. No ordinance numbers or separate policy texts were read into the record during the approvals.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 8 p.m.
