Victor CSD honors state‑champion teams as district year opens

Victor Central School District on Thursday recognized recent athletic achievements across multiple programs as part of opening‑week campus reports.
Dewey Weimer and coaches recognized teams who won championships last year and in spring 2025. The girls' program was honored for its fourth consecutive New York State championship in one squad and other teams were noted for sectional wins. "Last year was a banner year for us. 18 championships, which was the second most in our school history," Dewey Weimer said, and he reported more than 700 students are participating in fall athletics.
Coach Haggerty and Coach Smith addressed the board with a recap of their season. Haggerty described the team's dedication, early morning practices and a team motto of "#1More," and said the players set high goals and recovered from setbacks through intensified practice and adjustments. "If you play as a team, you can beat any team out there," Haggerty said.
The board also recognized the spring 2025 Class A1 girls track and field sectional championship team and listed several individual sectional champions, including Dre Yomis (shot put), Jack Kurbinski (pentathlon), Maggie Christiansen (steeplechase), Emma Goodell (100‑meter hurdles and 400‑meter hurdles) and Ellis McElhinney (400 meters). Coach Goodell, who could not attend, provided remarks read to the board expressing gratitude to athletes and assistant coaches Ryan Horst, Jerry Odell, Ryan Ellis and Jen Parks.
The board thanked athletes, coaches and families for their contributions and closed the recognition segment before moving to superintendent and campus updates later in the meeting.
