Architect presents detailed Reimagine Northfield High School plan; board asks about safety, energy and community access

Sal Bagley, the project architect, presented the district's design‑development package for the Reimagine Northfield High School project, reviewing site layout, material palettes, program adjacencies and the near‑term schedule.

Bagley said the work will keep and renovate significant parts of the existing campus while adding a new classroom/office wing, an expanded activities/music addition and a larger commons and serving area. The design calls for an expanded gym volume with three courts in one volume plus a fourth “community” court and an indoor walking track above portions of the courts. The team proposes precast concrete panels on the large gym and music volumes, a new lighter brick to complement existing brick, selected stone “fin” walls to mark main entries, and large areas of glazing with black framing.

Why it matters: the project remakes a large portion of the high‑school campus and includes community‑oriented spaces (an expanded gym and an accessible activity entry) that the public and senior organizations have said should be available for community use.
