Council approves John Deere buyout, renews equipment leases and adds 15 golf carts

City staff recommended renewing leases for golf-course equipment and purchasing certain units at the end of an existing lease to reduce long-term costs. The council approved the recommended John Deere buyout, renewed leases, and an increase of 15 golf carts to bring the rental fleet to 60.
Staff said the John Deere buyout for select equipment was substantially less expensive than the buyout package offered by an alternative vendor (Rocky Mountain Turf). Although an alternate vendor's annual lease bid was slightly lower, staff recommended John Deere because of the lower buyout cost, familiarity of staff with the equipment, and ease of operations and maintenance.
Staff also recommended adding a cart-control telematics module to the golf carts that would allow real-time monitoring from the pro shop, geofencing to prevent carts from entering restricted areas, and activity alerts. Staff estimated that the telematics module would add roughly $10,000–$12,000 per year for that capability.
A council member moved and another seconded the motion to approve the buyout and leases as recommended; the motion passed by voice vote. Staff said the purchases and leases were within the adopted budget and that the buyout/lease packages are five-year arrangements.
Staff will proceed with the John Deere buyout and execute the approved leases and will add the cart-control module as budgeted.
