Staff said it tabulated evaluation scores and recommended awarding the funds to the Urban League, which scored highest in the evaluations and had successfully completed an earlier, county-funded project.
"Urban League was one of our original awardees. They were the very first ones to complete their first project. So I have no issues," the presenter said, noting the Urban League had complied with covenants and been timely in draws on prior work. Staff told trustees all applicants requested the full $250,000 allocation.
A trustee emphasized that this reallocation is a "second chance" and that there would not be a third opportunity: if money is not used by project deadlines, it would need to be remitted back to the county or funder. The board made a motion to award the funds to the Urban League; a second followed and the motion was approved by voice vote.
No ordinance or statute was cited during the item. Staff said they will prepare related paperwork following the vote.
