A representative of Keep Morehouse Beautiful asked the Bastrop City Council for a letter of support for a T-Mobile Hometown Grant application worth $50,000. The proposed project would construct a small structure and site improvements on the grassy area adjacent to the sheriff's office near City Hall to provide a maintained, secure outdoor seating and small event area for city and sheriff employees and occasional community use.
The applicant said the sheriff's office would help maintain the space, and the grant application proposes benches, a covered structure (not a full gazebo), landscaping and lighting for seasonal displays and small events. Staff and the applicant said an architect is already reviewing design options and asked the council or any interested organization to submit letters of support; the grant submission deadline in the packet was stated as Sept. 25.
No council vote was recorded on the support letter at the meeting; the applicant requested the letter so that the grant could be submitted online prior to the deadline. The applicant provided target language for the T-Mobile Hometown Grant Program Review Committee and asked that the mayor or clerk provide a city letter of support if the council would authorize one in time for the deadline.
