Madison Middle and Waco Elementary construction progress; geothermal wells and HVAC bids scheduled

Jonathan Smith with Branson Construction updated the Madison County Board of Education on two active construction projects.
On Madison Middle School, Smith said many interior finishes are complete and the remaining work focuses on athletic fields. "We're still down to athletic fields. Should everything complete down there in November," he said, adding final paving in rear areas is set for October and track surfacing is scheduled around Oct. 1.
Smith showed progress photos of grass establishment on baseball, softball and football fields, painting inside the buildings and fencing and sidewalk installation. He said restroom fixtures and other interior sets are being installed and that sod installation would follow final grading.
At Waco Elementary, Smith reported that footings and foundations are being poured daily and that underground storm retention is in place and will be covered and backfilled. "Concrete's going every day," he said.
Smith also said geothermal well drilling will begin with work at Madison Southern during fall break and then move to other schools. The board was told a pre-bid for HVAC renovations at Foley Middle, Madison Central and Madison Southern drew about 20 contractors and that the bid opening is scheduled for Sept. 25.
Board members did not take action on the construction report; the presentation provided schedule updates and expected milestones.
