Commission carries over private cemetery petition for review after Health Department and probate documentation

The Mobile County Commission took up an add-on petition on Sept. 22 requesting authorization to establish a private cemetery filed by Louis T. Davidson and Katrina Davidson, a process governed by state code and county procedures.
Melissa King, chief clerk of the probate court, said the process is provided for in state code and that the Health Department had assessed the site; she described the petition as the final step in the county-level approval. King said the property is generally located on Timber Pine Road in Wilmer and is surrounded by other family property. She told commissioners the Health Department report and the submitted plat were on file.
One commissioner said they had not seen the process before and asked for additional time to research long-term implications of creating a private family cemetery. The commissioner requested the item be carried over to allow review of code implications and potential longer-term effects. The commission agreed to hold the item over to the next meeting and asked the probate court to share the Health Department report and relevant code sections with commissioners.
The probate clerk said she would provide the needed documentation; no final action to authorize the cemetery was taken at the Sept. 22 meeting.
