Resident asks Mobile County to inspect erosion, silt runoff near Summerglen subdivision

A resident speaking at the Sept. 22 Mobile County Commission meeting asked county staff to inspect alleged erosion and silt runoff from nearby construction into his property in Summerglen subdivision.
Randy Godwin told the commission his neighbor had purchased property off Repo Road, had been building two houses over the past six months, and that stormwater and red clay silt were running onto his property at 2319 Summerglen Drive. He said a silt fence had been installed but was in distress and that a recent heavier rain had flooded the retention pond with sediment.
County staff responded on the record that the construction permitting and inspections process handles such complaints. Staff said they would pass the complaint to the inspections department and send inspectors to evaluate compliance with the building permits and erosion-control measures. The county clarified that the subdivision plat approval under agenda item 45 does not affect permitting or enforcement for the property; permitting and inspections are handled separately.
The commission directed staff to obtain contact information to follow up and to report back after inspection.
