Opelika council adopts FY2026 budget and approves multiple contracts, equipment purchases

The Opelika City Council on Sept. 16 approved the city's annual budget for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2026, and adopted a series of resolutions to fund infrastructure repairs, equipment purchases and programmatic appropriations.

Resolution 8, the annual budget for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2026, was approved. The council packet lists projected general fund revenues of $90,403,973 and projected expenditures of $90,528,284. Council members voted to adopt the budget during the regular meeting roll call.

Other approved items included a contract for emergency repairs in the Northeast Industrial Park awarded to Webb Utilities and Construction LLC at an estimated cost of $603,457.50; purchases for the Fire Department of a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab pickup for $49,836.95 and a 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe for $67,762.40 from McSweeney Auto Group; and a $262,090.99 purchase of playground equipment for West Ridge Park from GameTime.

The council approved a co-location license agreement with Core Scientific Incorporated (formerly Albix) described in the packet as a three-year agreement with a one-time charge of $3,886.20 and monthly payments described in the agenda materials as totaling $97,200 (as stated in the meeting materials).
