Council appoints three‑member review board to begin Planning and Zoning Commission reappointments

The El Mirage Common Council on Sept. 16 approved the mayor’s recommendation to appoint Council members Monica Dorsey, Scottie Gentry and Donna Winston to a three‑member commissioner review board charged with screening applicants for upcoming Planning and Zoning Commission vacancies.
City staff said the process begins now because three regular Planning and Zoning positions are scheduled to expire next June and, under the city code, the review process should start six months in advance. Staff also said there are two current alternate vacancies that can move into regular positions when needed.
Vice Mayor Parsons moved the appointments and Council member Winston seconded. The motion passed by voice vote. City staff will use the review board to screen applicants and return appointment recommendations to the council in the months ahead.
