Pleasant Valley student government president praises renovations, cites new safety measures and student services

Isabella, the president of Pleasant Valley High School’s student government, reported to the Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education on Sept. 24 on student reactions to school renovations and several operational changes.

Isabella said students were initially unsure how renovations would affect the year but are "pleasantly surprised" at the new classrooms and changes such as new senior parking spots. She described temporary limits (some seniors were on a waiting list but a new area would be completed by the end of the month), and said the former gym has been repurposed as the cafeteria while the former cafeteria renovations continue. The student government also converted the Bear Café into a senior lounge.

She told the board students appreciate being allowed to carry backpacks, which helps them keep materials organized and reach classes and buses on time. She also highlighted safety and procedural changes: the high school has new metal detectors, which Isabella said "play an important role in keeping our school safe" and an electronic hall-pass system (e-hall pass) that staff and students are still learning to use. Isabella described administrative support helping teachers learn the system so it does not interrupt instructional time.

She closed by previewing homecoming planning: the student council had discussed dance themes and spirit-week ideas and expects a bonfire and other activities.

Her report was presented as the regular monthly student-government update and was informational; the board did not take formal action on the items Isabella reported.
