Board hears explanation of 20-year lease update needed to accept $1 million federal grant for Monroe CTC

Pleasant Valley board members were briefed that the Monroe Career and Technical Institute (MCTI) needs an updated lease covering the property to accept a $1 million federal grant. A board representative explained the sending districts do not own the MCTI property; the authority owns the buildings and land, and a revised lease is a federal-grant requirement.

Board member or liaison (identified in the meeting as Missus Serfus) said the proposed lease would extend the term by 20 years. She emphasized the districts and the authority were not changing other aspects of the relationship: "So this lease is for an additional 20 years between the authority and the 4 school districts," she said. Meeting participants noted the original agreement dated to 1971; the new lease is intended to satisfy the federal-grant condition so the institute can receive the funds. A representative added final payments on the recent construction will be withheld until punch-list items (curbing, parking lot striping and other finishing items) are completed.
