Board to consider MCIU-led superintendent search; agreement on Sept. 29 agenda

Dr. Scanlon, Superintendent, told the board the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) submitted a proposal to conduct the district's superintendent search and that the administration will present the IU agreement on the Sept. 29 board agenda.
“There is a new timeline in there, that the board should approve officially so that the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit can go do its search,” Dr. Scanlon said, adding that the IU’s work typically carries no cost to districts beyond advertising expenses of up to about $3,500.
Dr. Scanlon described a tentative timeline the IU proposed: collect resumes and conduct interviews this fall and winter with a possible announcement in February, and noted that a successful candidate may have a 90–120 day hold in their current contract. The IU’s plan also calls for an online community survey in October to gather public input on desired superintendent qualifications.
Board members discussed whether the board should approve the IU agreement while leaving the timeline language flexible. Mrs. Hermans, Board member, suggested removing explicit dates from the agenda item so the board would not be forced to return to approve timing changes. Dr. Scanlon said approving the agreement would not prevent the board from adjusting dates later.
The item will be placed on the Sept. 29 agenda for formal board action; no formal vote occurred on Sept. 15.
