Board received a detailed bond and construction update on the new Stillwater High School project, and approved substantial-completion certifications for transportation parking at OES and HVAC/roof work at Sanger Ridge Middle School and the high-school PAC.
The Stillwater Public Schools Board of Education received an extended construction update Tuesday on the district's bond projects, including progress photos from the new high school and a schedule for upcoming site demolition and athletics upgrades.
Brian Thomas of 505, the district's bond program consultant, reported that the high school's exterior veneer, roofing and major site work are largely complete, that interior trades are installing lockers, ceiling grids and flooring, and that classroom lighting and HVAC equipment are operational in much of the building. "Classrooms are bright; there's daylight in there," Thomas said, summarizing staff reactions to walkthroughs conducted during recent professional development days.
The board also approved two separate substantial-completion items recommended by staff:
- Substantial completion for the OES Phase 2 transportation parking project, which includes a new parking area for buses and a compressed natural gas (CNG) distribution connection donated and installed in cooperation with a vendor.
- Substantial completion for Sanger Ridge Middle School HVAC and roof replacement and mechanical improvements at the high-school performing-arts center (PAC). District staff said only punch-list items remain, primarily thermostat commissioning and test-and-balance work; the remaining large HVAC unit for the PAC will be replaced over fall break to minimize classroom disruption.
Mr. Beau Gamble and district facilities staff briefed the board on logistics tied to construction sequencing. They said demolition of older athletic facilities (the city gym and West/Lehi gym structures) is planned as part of future packages; the district is collecting asbestos testing results and coordinating relocation of displaced activities so demolition can proceed in phases without major program disruption.
Thomas said the project team is moving early on furniture, fixtures and technology purchases to lock in pricing and reduce the risk of late-year cost escalation. He also described plans for a design-review committee to meet on the athletics phase schematic later this fall.
Board members praised the program's communication and staff tours; trustees were invited to additional site tours planned in the coming weeks. The two substantial-completion votes passed unanimously. Voting members recorded as "yes" were Roberta Douglas, Rachel Dillon, Tim Riley, Dr. Kate Washington and Dr. Baker.
Clarifying details from the update: lockers and interior millwork are being installed; exterior masonry is nearly finished; site drainage and east-side sidewalks are in progress; technology and security cabling are being coordinated to go in above ceiling lines; the contractor is targeting use of new lots for home football games when safe and practical.
