Board OKs temporary premise extension for Brew/Brooderfest event with fire, health and comptroller sign‑offs

The Alcohol Beverage Board of St. Mary's County approved a temporary extension of licensed premises for an outdoor event organized by Geraldine A. The extension covers about 2,400 square feet for an event starting Oct. 4 and continuing into the early hours of Oct. 5, with the board ultimately approving an 11 a.m. start on Oct. 4 through 1 a.m. Oct. 5, conditioned on fire marshal, health department and county comptroller approvals.
LaRue told the board she has run the event for seven years and plans to fence two side extensions with gated entries staffed during the event. "It is fenced, but we need to do the sides where the fairy garden is. So we're gonna have 2 side extensions fenced off with 2 gates," she said. The board required staff to man those gates.
Board members and staff discussed event logistics and the multiple agency sign‑offs required each year. Member discussion raised the possibility of administrative efficiencies for recurring events that have a reliable safety record, but the board noted concerns that conditions could change year to year and that other agencies (town, fire, health) also must approve each event.
The motion to approve as amended — setting the event from 11 a.m. Oct. 4 to 1 a.m. Oct. 5 — carried by voice vote with the stated conditions. The board reiterated that applicants must obtain required agency sign‑offs before the event.
