City staff provided an update on East Side economic development work, saying a preliminary report from a study group is available and that staff are researching rules and regulations that could affect an East Michigan Avenue corridor plan.
Staff said the East Michigan Avenue Corridor Steering Committee meets Oct. 6 and that, afterward, staff will schedule a public (non‑council) visioning meeting so residents can provide input on what an East Michigan corridor might look like. Staff noted the corridor does not need to be one straight line and compared the arrangement to the existing MLK corridor, which follows multiple streets.
The council asked about the date and whether the Oct. 6 meeting is virtual; staff confirmed the steering committee meeting is virtual at 8:30 a.m. and that a public session will be scheduled later.
No formal action was taken; staff indicated further reports will be provided after the steering‑committee meeting.
