Solano County honors Sheriff Thomas A. Ferrara for 45 years of public service

The Solano County Board of Supervisors presented a resolution and plaque honoring Sheriff Thomas A. Ferrara on his retirement after a 45‑year law enforcement career, more than 40 of those years with Solano County and 12 years as the county’s elected sheriff‑coroner.
Chair Mashburn read the board’s resolution recounting Ferrara’s career path: entry as a Rio Vista police cadet in 1978, service in several police and sheriff’s roles, promotions through lieutenant, sergeant and captain ranks, appointment as undersheriff in 2006, appointment as sheriff‑coroner by the board in 2012, and subsequent election to the office in 2014, 2018 and 2022. The resolution also cited leadership roles, training accomplishments and program initiatives Ferrara led, including a statewide concealed‑carry training conference, the resident deputy program, capital projects at the county’s Claybank campus and custody facility upgrades, and emergency coordination during major disasters.
Ferrara and Undersheriff Brad Doyle addressed the board. Ferrara thanked his staff and family and said he looked forward to spending time with his wife and grandchildren; Doyle recounted working alongside Ferrara for 34 years and praised his leadership. The board’s resolution was adopted 5‑0.
Ending Board members and sheriff’s office colleagues posed for a group photo as part of the retirement recognition. The resolution is dated September 2025 and will be delivered to Ferrara and his family.
