Laconia council sets public hearings, advances readings on grants, parking and snow ordinances

The Laconia City Council on a regular agenda advanced multiple items to public hearing and approved several first-reading procedural motions, moving a series of grant-funded public-safety purchases, parking rules and a snow-deposit ordinance closer to final action.

The council read title-only and scheduled public hearings for two New Hampshire Department of Safety 2025 Homeland Security competitive grants that would add equipment to the Laconia Police Department’s toolset. Councilors waived full readings and approved first readings and public hearings for the tethered-drone grant and a utility side-by-side vehicle grant. A separate vote authorized use of impact-fee funds for a capital facilities study.

Why it matters: The grants would add new equipment to city departments and create potential ongoing maintenance costs; the parking and snow ordinances would create new enforcement and fine mechanisms that affect residents, contractors and property owners.
