Commission hears project updates; Old Mormon Fort National Register action delayed to December

Staff reported that the Old Mormon Fort National Register update was postponed to the Dec. 5 state board meeting due to a state cyberattack and listed several items—Cliff May final report, Floyd Lamp Park report and Las Vegas Academy campus update—scheduled for the commission’s October meeting.
City staff provided updates on several commission projects and schedules, and a commissioner proposed convening a strategic-planning process to set priorities.
Diane Seabrent told commissioners the Old Mormon Fort National Register update was delayed because a state cyberattack prevented staff from distributing materials; the state board will now consider the National Register update on Dec. 5 at the Lost City Museum in Overton. Seabrent also noted that the Cliff May homes final report, a Floyd Lamp Park historic report and a campus update from the Las Vegas Academy of the Performing Arts will be on the commission’s October agenda; staff expects to distribute the Floyd Lamp Park report to commissioners before the end of the week.
Seabrent reminded commissioners who attended the NAPC virtual short course to submit session summaries by Oct. 6. Commissioner Laramie proposed adding a future agenda item to conduct strategic planning: to reassess the commission’s priorities, resources and public expectations and to lay out multi-year work priorities.
No formal votes were taken on project scheduling or the strategic-planning proposal; commissioners discussed timing and the need to involve community input in any broad priorities review.
