Small Business Development Center seeks referrals as it reports growth in Seneca County assistance

Bob Griffin, regional director for the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) based at Onondaga Community College, briefed the economic development committee on SBDC activity in Seneca County and asked county leaders to remind business owners that SBDC services are free and confidential.
Griffin said the regional SBDC serves eight counties, employs nine business advisors and will serve more than 1,400 clients statewide this year; for Seneca County specifically he reported 58 clients served in the current program year, about 140 advising hours, nine participants in a summer business-basics course hosted in the IDA building, and roughly 137 jobs impacted by client projects. He described services ranging from business planning and lender-readiness to marketing, cash-flow projections and DRI/NY forward assistance and said the SBDC helps both aspiring entrepreneurs and established businesses.
Griffin asked supervisors to direct interested business owners to the SBDC website and offered to provide referral links and promotional materials for municipal pages and social media. Committee members asked about services and noted that small businesses often need help preparing bank-ready financials and grant applications; Griffin said advisors can provide that assistance and sometimes join clients for lender meetings.
