Commission hears committee updates: comprehensive plan celebration Oct. 2; age‑friendly and green-code work continues

At the Sept. 24 meeting the East Lansing Planning Commission received committee reports from planning staff covering the comprehensive plan, age‑friendly communities work, and the green-code study.
Mr. Bartley said the city’s comprehensive plan was adopted on Aug. 13 and a community celebration is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 2, at Anserra Plaza in Downtown East Lansing from 3 to 7 p.m. The event will include live music, giveaways and ice cream from Tasty Twist, and staff said the plan document will be available for review.
Bartley said the age‑friendly communities committee has met twice since the last planning commission meeting and is finalizing an updated work plan; staff expect to bring an informational item to the commission and pursue adoption early in the coming year after additional stakeholder review.
The green code study committee met the night before for its final scheduled meeting but remains active if further work is needed. Bartley said recommendations from that committee could come to City Council for a discussion-only meeting on Oct. 14 and that staff will notify commission members when that occurs.
Bartley also said the commission will likely hold one regular meeting as a retreat to review the comprehensive plan update in depth, with staff suggesting a session in November. He said coordinating-committee debrief meetings are scheduled for mid-October to assess the plan process and lessons learned.
