Council reviews updated Good Life District study as debate over aquatic center intensifies

Tonya Brown, a representative of Grow Grand Island, presented a high-level overview of an updated feasibility and economic impact study by Victus Advisors on the Good Life District at the Grand Island City Council meeting on Sept. 23, 2025. The presentation summarized market demand for an indoor sports complex, stakeholder interviews, and tourism-site considerations; the final Victus report and full financial pro forma were not available at the meeting.

The report, begun in July 2025, validated prior market work and identified regional demand for an indoor sports center with convertible courts. “There is a strong interest in a new Grand Island facility especially for youth basketball and volleyball,” Tonya Brown said. Victus recommended that a successful facility would likely need four to eight convertible basketball courts, high-quality courts and amenities, adequate parking, and strong lodging options to attract out-of-town tournament play.
