Neshaminy superintendent previews fall events, student activities

Mr. Bowman, the Neshaminy School District superintendent, told the school board at its meeting that the district is nearly four weeks into the new school year and reported on recent and upcoming student and community events.

He said back-to-school nights at the high school and elementary schools were “very well attended,” and that the final middle-school back-to-school night would be held later in the week. "We are just shy of 4 weeks into the new school year and well into our fall programs and activities around the district," Bowman said.

Bowman said students observed Constitution Day, marking the U.S. Constitution’s signing on Sept. 17, 1787, with activities including a constitution-themed scavenger hunt and a classroom competition. He also reported the district’s recent “Go Gold” week to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer and reminded the community of a district “Pink Out” event on Oct. 3 to support breast-cancer awareness and related fundraising.

The superintendent recognized athletic alumni who were honored recently: 16 individual alumni athletes were inducted into the district’s All Sports Hall of Fame and the entire 1979 state-championship softball team from Maple Point High School was recognized at a ceremony and at a subsequent football game. "It was great to spend time with many of them who attended the ceremony," Bowman said.

Bowman invited the community to Neshaminy High School’s homecoming events on Friday: a carnival starting at 6 p.m. followed by the football game at 7 p.m. at the Ridge stadium. "Right now, weather's looking good, and I'm looking forward to a great night at the Ridge," he said.

After the superintendent’s report, the board moved on to routine agenda business.
