The City of Muskogee City Council on Sept. 22 approved acceptance of a donated police K-9 from the Muscogee Citizens Police Alumni Association, valued at $8,500. The donation was presented by Mister Teehee, who said the animal will replace a K-9 the department lost several months ago due to a medical issue.
Mister Teehee thanked the Citizens Academy (also referenced as the Citizens Police Alumni Association) for the full donation and for other support, saying, "They do a lot for us, not just, monetarily, but also helping us on the streets," according to the record. The meeting included a brief on-stage introduction of the dog, identified in the record as "Nanno."
Councilors asked about breed and duties. Presenters explained that Labrador retrievers are often used for narcotics detection and for locating missing or endangered persons, while German shepherds are described as more methodical and stronger for certain apprehension tasks. The record states the department intends to use the donated dog for narcotics detection and searches for missing persons.
The council approved the acceptance of the gift by roll call. No strings or contractual obligations associated with the donation were recorded in the council discussion.
