Interim HR director seeks extension of temporary staffing; commissioners give direction to approve at business meeting

Sweet said one employee's leave of absence has been extended to Oct. 27 and that another HR employee submitted a resignation with a last day of service coming this Friday. Given those developments, Sweet asked the board for a four-week extension to maintain departmental operations while a replacement is hired and employees return.
Commissioners responded that salary savings in other accounts make the extension supportable through the end of the year if necessary; they directed Sweet to include the item on the afternoon business meeting agenda for a formal vote. No formal extension was approved at the status-update meeting.
Why it matters: Human-resources coverage affects county hiring, benefits administration and routine personnel processing. Losing multiple HR staffers at once can disrupt those services and delay other departments' personnel actions.
Sweet said the temporary staffing originally approved at the July 3 HR meeting expires this Friday; she requested an additional four weeks to bridge staffing gaps and complete recruitment. Commissioners indicated support for the extension and asked staff to present the formal request for vote at the business meeting.
