The Garden Grove City Council authorized purchase orders to equip the Emergency Communications Center in the city’s new Public Safety Facility, approving about $1.4 million in expenditures for 9-1-1 phone, radio and recording systems.
City Project Manager Craig Beck said construction of the Civic Center revitalization project is more than 50% complete and the next critical path is the communications fit-out. "The action before council tonight is to request the approval of purchase equipment that will fit out the 9-1-1 phones, radios, and recording equipment," Beck said, noting the procurement is coordinated with Cal OES and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Beck said the expenditures are covered by a combination of State 9-1-1 funding and the city's communications replacement funds and that equipment orders would allow early access to the communications rooms in February, with anticipated completion and testing in June 2026. Councilmembers praised the progress on the building and urged adherence to the schedule to avoid cost or schedule overruns.
Council voted 6–0 to authorize the purchase orders to vendors including Motorola, AT&T, Talley and Caserco Inc.
