Shalita Best, Community Services Administrator, told the council on Sept. 23 that the Department of Housing and Community Development proposes using $53,785.88 in remaining opioid-designated funds to open an application process for nonprofit service providers.
Under the proposal, the Community Grants Advisory Commission would open the application process after its first meeting in October. Agencies would submit applications and, if selected, present to the commission in November. The commission would make funding recommendations, which staff would bring back to the City Council for final action.
Best said the funds could be used for public education or for services, and that council action would be requested after the commission provides recommendations. No formal council vote or funding award occurred at the Sept. 23 special work session; the item was presented as a proposed process and timeline.
Best stood for questions after the presentation and the council moved on to other business.
