County selects new property/casualty program after competitive renewal that reduces overall premium and improves deductibles

The Williamson County Commissioners Court approved Sept. 23 the recommended property, casualty and workers’ compensation insurance renewal package after presentations from the county’s broker and risk manager.

Andy Hoffman (risk management) and Ben Odom (broker, McGrath) reviewed renewal options. Odom said the incumbent renewal and a recommended market alternative both presented without material negative changes; he told the court “there’s no red in either of these 2 options” and highlighted improvements in the recommended package, including lower public‑officials and law enforcement deductibles, an increased cyber limit and a $2.5 million catastrophic auto physical damage layer to protect parked/unoccupied vehicles.

The recommended program also provides a workers’ compensation buffer that effectively lowers county compensation deductibles for many classifications. Overall premium for the recommended package came in below the county’s budgeted amount and represented an improvement over last year despite higher property values and exposure changes. Commissioners approved the recommended program by motion and recorded a unanimous vote.

The court recorded the award and authorized staff to finalize policy documents. County staff and the broker said they would complete documentation and implement the new program terms for the coming policy year.
