The City of Tulsa Board of Adjustment approved a special exception to increase the maximum allowable driveway width for 2550 South Evanston Avenue East, allowing a 42-foot opening in the right-of-way and a 47-foot opening within the street setback.
Builder Bill Powers told the board the house is built for an owner who frequently hosts meetings at her home and that nearby 20th Street is a busy route with heavy pedestrian use. Powers said the owner wants a circular drive for safety and convenient guest parking and that the lot elevation and driveway configuration minimize drainage impacts.
Board members said the request fits an existing neighborhood pattern of circle drives on corner lots and cited pedestrian traffic and recent traffic calming measures on nearby streets. The board approved the special exception after members said the accommodation was consistent with neighborhood character and likely to reduce on-street parking.
Recorded votes were: Miss Williams — aye; Mr. Wallace — aye; Miss Stauffer — aye; Chair — aye. The approval references the conceptual plan in the agenda packet.
