The speaker said the amendment has been submitted to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and that the state’s stated effective date for the amendment is Dec. 31 of this year.
The committee noted that the public-comment period attracted concerns, particularly over proposed service caps affecting recreation therapy, music therapy and behavior supports. Kelly said the state will produce training for case managers, providers and families to explain how the changes will be implemented.
Committee members also referenced a planned “waiver reset” in 2027, which they said will align multiple waivers and incorporate data and outcomes information gathered during the current amendment process. Members urged families and service providers to monitor state communications over the next 60 days as training and implementation materials are released.
Speakers emphasized that the waiver amendment process is a federal–state funding and compliance exercise, and recommended that affected families contact their case managers and provider organizations for guidance and timelines.
