The Haywood County Board of Education approved out-of-state travel requests for two student groups.
The Air Force Junior ROTC was authorized to travel overnight to St. Louis, Missouri, Oct. 1–4, and to participate in the Hernando Veterans Day parade in Hernando, Mississippi on Nov. 11. District staff presented the destinations and dates; a motion to approve the travel was moved, seconded and carried on voice vote.
The board also approved FFA national convention travel for students to Indianapolis for leadership workshops and networking, described in the meeting as happening Oct. 28 through the end of October/early November (meeting language was “October 28 through the, 30 first”); staff said the trip would expose students to leadership workshops and representatives from postsecondary institutions. A motion to approve the FFA travel was moved, seconded and approved.
Motions for both travel items passed on voice vote; the transcript does not show a roll-call tally of individual yes/no votes.
