Student board representatives Landon Hay and Lexi Buntrock presented the high-school student council's homecoming plans for the coming week, including this year's theme, daily dress-up schedule, the homecoming court and a calendar of events.
"This year's theme is Rio Carnival," Landon Hay said, explaining the decorations and bright colors planned for the week. The student council enumerated dress-up days (PJ Day; Tropical Tuesday; Color War Day with grade-level colors; USA Day) and campus events: a coronation at 2:15 p.m., varsity soccer, tennis matches, Powderpuff football and a Heman volleyball event, a pep fest streamed on the district YouTube page, a parade with 4:30 p.m. lineup and 5 p.m. start, and a Saturday dance at the Stewartville Golf Club.
Student leaders gave names for the homecoming court and committees and listed safety and logistics notes: parade lineup and parking instructions, a request that spectators bring lawn chairs, and that student council will distribute snacks at halftime for a boys soccer game. They said coronation was streamed on YouTube and thanked staff who supported the events.
Board members asked clarifying questions about logistics and thanked the students. The board directed staff and trustees who will attend the parade to assemble in the high-school parking lot at 4:30 p.m. and noted that members should not park there but walk in from other lots.
