The Stewartville Public School District Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a preliminary levy setting the district's maximum levy for 2025 payable in 2026.
Board President (unidentified) moved to approve the levy and Mr. Welch seconded the motion; Ms. Cook recorded the roll call and the motion passed on a 6-0 vote with one member absent.
The preliminary levy sets the ceiling the district will submit for collection. District staff told the board this step is procedural: the board will hold the formal Truth in Taxation meeting in December, when the community will have the chance to review and the board will adopt the final levy amount then.
Superintendent (unnamed) noted the district will use the December meeting to detail how levy revenues are allocated and how they interact with the district's budget. The board asked no substantive policy questions at the meeting and moved the item forward.
The board directed staff to publish the required notices and prepare the formal Truth in Taxation presentation for December.
