Caswell County Schools' Board of Education voted on several budget and operational measures during its meeting, approving a set of staff supplements, Title I staffing actions and the purchase of a behavioral threat assessment management system.
The board approved a motion to use funds from the district fund balance to pay staff supplements. The motion as recorded at the meeting stated the board would take $98,507 from the fund balance for this fiscal year; the motion carried 4-2. The board also approved a separate low-wealth teacher supplement of $4,500 for certified staff; staff described that payment as coming from state low-wealth funds and not guaranteed year to year.
On staffing and program funding, the board approved using Title I allocations to purchase additional teaching positions. Staff described that would fund eight teaching positions under Title I and noted that using the federal funds would reduce or eliminate Title I carryover; the consent item passed by a recorded vote of 5-1.
The board also approved purchase of a behavioral threat assessment management (BTAM) system to streamline threat- and risk-assessment reporting and reduce staff time spent entering forms. The motion to purchase BTAM for $21,843 was presented and approved by the board.
Other formal votes during the meeting included approval of the minutes earlier in the session (recorded as 6-0) and approval of routine consent items. Several items discussed at the meeting โ such as transportation fleet repainting and school facility grant applications โ were reviewed but left for staff follow-up rather than immediate board action.
Board Chair (unnamed in the transcript) and staff read the motions into the record and the clerk called votes; some vote counts were recorded without individual roll-call names. The approved actions will be implemented per staff direction and subject to routine financial controls and applicable grant rules.
