Romulus council approves no-fee permit and partial Ferndale Street closure for Polka Dots Haunted Night Market

Kuderik told the council the partial closure would let the event “fit more people and it’s safe for our attendees,” and said about 30 vendors plan to set up in the street area.
City staff reported that relevant departments reviewed the request and had no objections. The city’s public safety department (the fire department) added a condition: the petitioner must maintain a clear travel path of sufficient width to allow passage of a fire engine, which the council record specifies as a 15-foot clearance for emergency vehicles while the road is closed.
Council members voted to approve a no-fee permit and the partial road closure, with the motion moved by Mr. Walford and supported by Mr. Kraut. The roll-call-style vote recorded the council’s assent and the permit was authorized as requested with the fire-department clearance condition.
The approved closure begins at Goddard Road and ends at the entrance of the north–south alley behind Polka Dots Decor & More. The applicant also discussed lighting for the event; staff said new exterior lighting near the business and the planned hours (4–8 p.m.) should provide sufficient illumination, and the council did not add further requirements.
Council approval allows the event to proceed under the stated hours and conditions; the record shows no public objections during the meeting.
The petitioner’s requested conditions and the council’s motion are administrative approvals rather than changes to local law. If event details change materially (different hours, larger closure, or other public-safety implications), those would need to be returned to the council or handled by staff under existing permitting rules.
