Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools announced Sept. 9 that Maplewood High School will join the district’s Nashville State Early College portfolio with a health-care focus, enabling students to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate degree in a health-related field.
Director of Schools Dr. Adrien Battle described the Early College expansion as building on existing strengths in the Maplewood cluster, including AVID and STEM programming and measurable academic growth. “We proudly announced that Maplewood High School is joining our Nashville State Early College portfolio with a health care focus, giving students the chance to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate's degree in a health related field,” Battle said.
The announcement follows work under the district’s Reimagine initiative to align cluster pathways and expand personalized and applied learning experiences from pre-K through graduation. Battle said the move “builds on the strong foundation already established in the Maplewood cluster.”
The board meeting also recognized Jerry Baxter (referred to in the meeting as Jerry Baxter Bridal School) for its academic performance; staff said Jerry Baxter will be celebrated later in the meeting for being designated a Level 5 school this year.
No board action was taken Sept. 9; the statements were presented as an update on district programming and cluster alignment.
