The Coeur d'Alene City Council proclaimed September 2025 as National Suicide Prevention Month and invited local advocates to accept the proclamation and speak about prevention resources.
Council President Dan English read key points from the proclamation, noting national statistics cited in the resolution and encouraging residents to consult the full text on the city website. Jeanette Lassiter and Alicia Keller accepted the proclamation and addressed the council, saying suicide ‘‘touches all of us’’ and urging residents to seek help and use crisis resources.
Jeanette Lassiter told the council that between January and August 2025 there had been 31 lives lost to suicide in Kootenai County, including four youth, and emphasized that help is available. Speakers cited 988 as a 24/7 national crisis line and local resources including Panhandle Health District, NAMI, the Mobile Crisis Response Team and community partners.
The council made a ceremonial proclamation (read into the record) and no formal policy action accompanied the proclamation.
