During the public-comment period at the Sept. 18 Macomb County Board of Commissioners meeting, two speakers urged the board to act on community problems.
Paul Shorsch, who identified himself as a precinct delegate from Clinton Township, said Moravian Street (Clinton Township) is “a disaster” and described a recent vehicle damage and near collisions near a school. Shorsch asked the county to install lower speed signage and take other safety measures, saying school buses and emergency vehicles have been forced to use the center line to avoid potholes. “Can you at least put a sign up? Make it 25 miles an hour,” he said.
Pastor Curtis Astrach of Harvest Time Christian Fellowship in South Warren said the church — which he said has operated a food pantry for 34 years — was informed in August that Macomb County Food Bank and Macomb Community Action were dropping the church from distribution. Astrach said inspectors had recently found no major violations, and that the church’s refrigeration logs were maintained; he said the church serves a high-need ZIP code (48089) and provided a scan-based total of 75,665 people served last year. Astrach called the termination “a pity and a shame” for needy residents and asked county officials to examine the decision and its effects on food access.
Chairman Joe Sabatini closed the public-comment period after other offers to speak were exhausted. No immediate county action was recorded on the transcript; commissioners did not announce a follow-up at the meeting.
