Lenoir City Council voted to upgrade audiovisual equipment in the council chamber, approving a low quote of $18,675.65 from Power Technology Solutions.
Council staff and the city’s audiovisual technician, Charles, described the planned upgrades as adding a second camera to show who is addressing council, an interface to stream presenters’ laptop screens to YouTube, and a ceiling-mounted microphone capable of covering roughly a 30-by-30-foot area. “It’s going to greatly improve the audio quality of the broadcast,” Charles said, noting the system will reduce background noise from the room’s return air and allow selective exclusion of areas from pickup.
The purchase includes a service-contract line item of $941; staff said they believe it is a service contract but did not specify whether that fee will be annual. The vendor, Power Technology Solutions, was described as the company used by the local school system and TV 3 for similar installs.
Council members framed the purchase as a transparency and accessibility improvement. A resident during public comment thanked the council for “thinking about the public” and said the upgrade will help seniors and shut-ins who cannot attend in person.
The council approved the motion; staff will finalize warranty and service-term details with the vendor.
