Daviess County commissioners voted to adopt a new computer purchasing policy that requires department heads to route all requests for computer equipment through the county’s information technology director.
Commissioners said the change aims to ensure technical compatibility, leverage IT expertise for procurement decisions and allow functional devices to be repurposed within county departments rather than disposed of. Commissioner T.C. Cook moved to adopt the policy; Commissioner Mike Keith seconded the motion. The motion passed 3-0.
Under the adopted approach, department heads still determine functional requirements for their units, but the IT director will provide final approval to confirm compatibility, repurposing opportunities and long-term supportability. Commissioners said the policy is intended to reduce duplicate purchases and better manage county-wide IT spending.
