Technical council accepts staff recommendation for 624 East Gunther certificate; owner to deliver material sample

At a meeting of the city-appointed technical council, members voted unanimously to accept staff recommendations on a certificate of appropriateness application for 624 East Gunther Street.

The council’s vote, taken after staff advised against approval as proposed, instructs the property owner to provide a physical example of the cladding material that will replace existing siding. The owner, Chris Naglis, said he will bring a sample and follow staff guidance.

Staff told the council the proposed replacement would need to match the original material or otherwise meet the office’s standards; because the submitted proposal did not include a sample or sufficient detail, staff recommended against approval as presented. Chris Naglis addressed the council and said, "I'm going to follow the recommendations and I'm going to bring an example of the material I will use." The council then moved to accept the staff recommendation.

Roll-call votes recorded all members present voting yes: Davis, García, Brigarde, Spiller, Fullerton, Pollock and Vásquez. The motion passed, and staff was directed to follow up with the applicant on next steps.

The applicant was told how the process works if the certificate is approved: the item on the consent agenda would not need to return to the council and the certificate would be sent by email within 10 days for consent items. No formal appeal or additional deadlines were specified at the meeting.
