Huber Heights Parks, YMCA outline fall–winter programs; board seeks volunteers, schedules tree giveaway and haunted-trail support

Parks staff and a YMCA representative updated the Huber Heights Parks and Recreation Board on seasonal facility maintenance, Y capital updates and a slate of fall and winter programs, and asked board members and volunteers to staff upcoming events.
A YMCA representative told the board that Labor Day closed the Kroger Aquatic Center for the season and that facility staff have been winterizing pools, including painting three pools (the lap pool, the baby pool and the splash pad). The representative said the splash pad at Thomas Cloud Park will be winterized next Monday and that surface repairs will be made before next Memorial Day.
The YMCA representative also said gymnasium equipment for a second gym in the Y—s expansion arrived the day of the meeting and that installation is progressing; staff hoped the project would be complete by September so the new gymnasium and floor could be ready for programs. The representative listed upcoming YMCA events the board might support: the Alex Ritchie 5K run/walk on Oct. 4 and the YMCA trunk-or-treat on Oct. 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Parks staff reviewed a calendar of 200th-and-50th (state bicentennial/45th founding) themed months for 2026 and asked board members to champion specific programs, including a skate park event in June, interpretive creek-walk programs, a tree giveaway in late April and a possible fishing derby at Carriage Hills. Staff recommended the board pin down dates the following month and named prospective champions for various events.
Board members set a tree-planting plan to replace removed Bradford pear trees and discussed Make a Difference Day; staff proposed planting roughly twice the number removed and suggested Saturday, the 18th at 9 a.m. as a planting time and meeting point at Shaldeate, subject to final scheduling. Parks staff also requested volunteers for immediate fall activities: staffing the park booth at Huber Haunt (the 5th, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.), helping at the YMCA trunk-or-treat (Oct. 26) and assisting with setup and non-spooky roles for the haunted trail on Oct. 24–25.
The board approved minutes from the prior meeting and set its next meeting for Oct. 16.
No formal policy changes were adopted; the items reported were updates and volunteer requests for programming and ongoing capital work.
