Stafford council appoints Jose Magana as fire chief

The Stafford City Council voted to appoint Jose Magana as chief of the Stafford Fire Department following an executive session on Sept. 17.
Mayor (unnamed) moved to appoint Magana and the motion was seconded; council took a voice vote and the appointment was approved. Magana told the council he was “humbled and honored” by the selection and said he intends to continue the department’s recent direction while noting there will be challenges ahead.
Magana said the department has been moving forward under outgoing Chief DiCamillo and that, while transitions can create delays, he intends to continue progress with the department’s members. Council members offered congratulations and several praised Magana’s experience and rapport with department staff.
The appointment followed an executive session during which the council discussed “appointment of fire chief,” as noted in the meeting agenda. No employment contract details, effective start date or salary were disclosed during the public session.
The council and Magana briefly paused for photographs and public congratulations before the meeting moved on to other business.
