Alabama reentry task force details working-group plans to cut recidivism

Members of the Alabama Reentry Task Force on Wednesday reviewed implementation plans from four working groups focused on reducing recidivism and improving reentry outcomes, and highlighted an upcoming PREP center graduation in Perry County that the group said has produced more than 400 graduates and reported 0% recidivism to date.
The task force — convened to oversee implementation of recommendations from the state’s reentry commission and the Reentry 2030 effort — heard status reports from groups on reentry preparedness, behavioral health and housing, workforce and employer engagement, and data standardization and reporting.
At the meeting, CSG Justice Center representative Rebecca said the working groups will translate the commission’s recommendations into action plans, identify budgetary and legislative needs, and support fundraising and pilot programs. “One of the things the working group is also working on is identifying any budgetary or legislative needs to be able to report to you all,” she said.
