Village officials told the board on Sept. 16 that the village is under water restrictions while the treatment plant undergoes sedimentation-basin replacements, which has reduced capacity some days.
Trustees said the restrictions have been publicly posted on large wooden signs at the main intersection near Getty Station, Cumberland Farms and Stewart's, in local post offices, on the village website and on local TV (channels 6, 10 and 13), the Times Union, the News Herald and village and trustees' public Facebook pages. Officials said those channels reached far more residents than the village’s Code Red phone alert system, which only had 30 signups combined for the town and village at the time of the meeting.
Board members thanked residents for conserving water and said the plant has not been strained to meet demand despite running at reduced capacity on some days. Trustees emphasized that residents need to check those public channels for updates because the village cannot mail notices for every operational decision.
A village staff member also noted that nearby municipalities have implemented similar restrictions; the board asked residents to limit nonessential outdoor water use and to consider private wells only where appropriate and legal.
