Harnett County commissioners approve consent items, transportation grant, committee appointments and routine contracts

HARNETT COUNTY — The Harnett County Board of Commissioners approved a slate of consent and routine items, including budget amendments, a state-required community transportation agreement, lease and memorandum renewals, and appointments to the county's First Responders Advisory Committee.
The board voted unanimously to approve requested budget amendments prepared by the finance officer. Commissioners also approved a contract for the 5311 Community Transportation Program in the amount of $96,713; staff said the contract is an annual requirement with funds used for vehicle purchases and administration and is required by NCDOT and IMD.
Other approved items included authorization for the chairman to sign contract amendments that exceed the county manager's signature threshold and renewal of a hangar lease with Piper GT LLC for an additional year. The board also authorized renewal of the School Resource Officer (SRO) program memorandum of understanding between the county and the Harnett County School District; county staff clarified police-department agreements are handled separately.
On committee appointments, the board approved Alan Jarvis and Chris Prince as the two members representing the Harnett County Fire Chiefs Association to the First Responders Advisory Committee and appointed Mike Williams to represent District 4. The board agreed to leave the remainder of application windows open through Oct. 1, with the commission set to consider remaining applicants at its Oct. 6 meeting so new names can be included in the packet.
Finally, commissioners approved a motion to go into closed session to discuss an economic development matter, attorney-client matters including a workers' compensation claim (Jennifer Davis v. County of Harnett, file number 24-046267) and proposed contract negotiations for the acquisition of real property. The board reconvened and adjourned at the conclusion of the meeting.
