The Los Angeles City Council on Sept. 5 honored El Nido Family Centres for 100 years of service to children and families across the city.
Councilmember Monica Rodriguez introduced the organization’s leaders and noted that El Nido began in 1925 to support undernourished children and has grown to serve more than 12,000 Angelenos annually through programs for economic mobility, education, youth development and family well-being.
Liz Herrera, El Nido’s chief executive officer, described the nonprofit’s origins and its long-standing role in bringing services into neighborhoods with high needs. Herrera said El Nido operates in multiple parts of the city and partners with schools, churches and city programs; she thanked the council for the recognition.
Rodriguez highlighted the agency’s local partnerships, including a tax-prep day at Pacoima City Hall and the Pacoima Farmers Market, and praised El Nido’s role supporting teen parents, students preparing for college and families pursuing stability.
Councilmembers commended the organization’s century of work and presented a ceremonial certificate in chambers.
