Lourdes Dixon told the City Council on Sept. 16 that unpermitted food vendors and ice cream trucks are repeatedly occupying a loading and unloading zone near the Aquarium of the Pacific and restaurants on Queensway Drive, creating safety hazards, traffic congestion and fumes that she said are affecting her health and business.
Dixon said the area between Hooters and the Aquarium of the Pacific is being used by approximately six to seven vendor trucks and that the marked loading zone paint is faded. She said she has reported vendors and that one vendor has received four citations. Dixon said she paid $8,000 in insurance this month and reported that her business revenue has been affected. She asked the council to repaint the loading zone in red and to enforce the no-parking restrictions.
The mayor thanked Dixon for her remarks; staff response or follow-up actions were not recorded in the meeting transcript.
Ending: Dixon asked for continued city attention to the situation; the meeting record does not show an immediate staff directive or council motion on the complaint.
