Michelle Byerly of Nonprofit Partnership and campaign manager Carrie Eldridge told the City Council on Sept. 16 that Long Beach Gives has returned for its seventh year with record participation and fundraising to benefit local nonprofit programs.
"So far, we've raised almost $700,000," Byerly said, and Eldridge said the effort has 291 nonprofits participating this year, the largest group yet. Byerly noted that Long Beach Gives has helped raise $10 million for programming across the city since the campaign began.
Organizers described Long Beach Gives as both a fundraising campaign and a collaborative network that helps nonprofits and local businesses form partnerships. Everett Glenn, founder and leader of BOSS (Business of Student Success), told the council that his organization raised $500,000 through Long Beach Gives and credited the campaign with supporting educational outcomes for participating youth.
Council members thanked organizers and invited participating nonprofits forward for a group photo.
Ending: Organizers asked residents and businesses to continue supporting local nonprofit events connected to Long Beach Gives this week and to watch for campaign updates from city staff and the Nonprofit Partnership.
